Emanuel Newton has been fighting professionally since 2003 and has fought for King of the Cage, Maximum Fighting Championship and Shark Fights before signing with Bellator. He holds notable victories over former UFC fighters Rodney Wallace and James McSweeney. Newton would enter the 2012 Summer Series Light Heavyweight tournament where he would win his opening bout over Roy Boughton but lose in the semi finals by a Split Decision to Attila Vegh.

Newton would be seen fighting again in the Season 8 tournament where he would shock the world in the semi finals by dispatching Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal in the first round with a spinning back fist knockout.He would win his next fight in the tournament finals against Mikhail Zayats. He would then fight King Mo again for the interim title defeating him for a second time this time by Unanimous Decision and earning a rematch and title shot against Attila Vegh. This time he would be on the other side of a split decision and win the Bellator Light Heavyweight championship.
